UP SPELL
Gameplay Tips
Up Spell is a simple game.
  • You get seven letters.
  • Tap or drag letters to the word tray to spell words.
  • When the word tray lights up, you've spelled a word.
  • Tap the lit-up word tray to score points and get some more letters.
  • When the word tray is empty, tap the trash button to dump your letters and get new ones.
  • When the word tray isn’t empty, tap the down arrow button to clear the word tray.
  • Score as many points as you can in two minutes.
And yet, there is some subtlety. The following tips will help you to improve your gameplay.
  • Unless you are extraordinarily quick, repeatedly typing two and three letters won’t produce the highest scores.
  • Bonuses are awarded for longer words: 5 points for five-letter words, 12 points for six-letter words, and 21 points for seven-letter words.
  • Don’t agonize too long trying to find the best possible word for a given set of letters. Many decent words will score better than a few excellent ones.
  • The 2x tiles are a key to getting top scores. The game gives you one every time you use 25 letter tiles. These tiles multiply your word score by two. Since this includes word length bonuses, a seven-letter word that includes a 2x tile scores a minimum of 42 points.
  • Learn the short words, especially the two-letter words. Typing one of these short words is much quicker than tapping the trash can and dumping your letter tray, since dumping assesses a time penalty.

DUELS & CHALLENGES

Up Spell is fun for solo play, but you can also play with friends. Use the SHARE pane in EXTRAS, to create a link to a new game with the same letters as one of your previous games, and then send that link via email, messages or social media. When your friend taps the link, the Up Spell app will open and set the stage for the game.

Text or message back to share your results with (and taunt!) each other. There are no additional accounts to create or friends list to manage.

If your friend doesn't have Up Spell installed on their iPhone or iPad, or if they follow the challenge link from a computer or some other kind of smartphone, then they are directed to a page, where they can learn about, buy, and download Up Spell.
